Cloudflare 499: review your availability report
Check a rise in 499 after the HTTP/3 reporting change: separate cancelled requests from server errors and compare them with funnel outcomes.
On 9 October 2026, Cloudflare updated HTTP/3 cancellation handling: affected requests stop sooner and receive 499 more consistently across Free, Pro, Business and Enterprise.
Publishers and advertisers should review the reporting method before declaring a landing page broken. The 499 reference describes client-closed connections; slow server responses also deserve investigation.
What to do now
- Annotate the monitoring timeline. Compare the same pages, devices and time intervals before and after the change.
- Chart 499 separately from server-side 5xx errors. Retain both series and the availability formula instead of silently removing historical data.
- Compare latency, page loading and actual form submissions. Escalate a rise in 499 accompanied by deterioration in these measures to your technical team.
Use the findings carefully
Do not stop a traffic source on the strength of one status code. Ask an engineer to examine a few anonymised requests and your account manager to compare the funnel over matching periods. This is our suggested investigation, not evidence that outages or fraud are absent. The publication date does not establish the exact rollout time for your domain.
