Demand Gen: checks for a shorter click journey

On September 24, 2026, Google announced single-tap landing-page visits from Shorts and Gmail image ads. Source: Google.

Who should act

Advertisers and publishers using paid traffic permitted by their offer. This announcement does not make every product, region or account eligible: check availability and placement requirements separately. The following is our editorial checklist, not a Google performance promise.

Check before increasing spend

Open the ad preview on a phone and follow the complete journey. Confirm that the destination matches the creative, remains readable without zooming and is not blocked by a pop-up. Check permitted tracking parameters through each redirect; do not put visitor personal data in URLs.

Advertisers should validate the target event and ensure refreshing the page does not create another reward. Publishers should check whether their source identifier survives the journey and confirm that the placement is allowed by the partner.

Evaluate outcomes consistently

Compare equal periods for one source: clicks, landing-page loads, approved events and spend. A shorter journey may change the mix of visitors; more clicks alone do not prove higher profit. Keep pending confirmations separate from rejections.

Record the format-change date and avoid simultaneously changing bids, audiences and landing pages. Acceptance criteria: a reproducible journey, preserved parameters, a traceable test event and the same conversion definition in both comparison periods.

Next: a creative-testing plan.
