Google Ads: audit business names in affiliate advertising

The announcement

On October 1, Google announced October business-name flexibility for some domain mismatches. Affiliate distributors are excluded from that exception.

The official Google announcement contains the exact conditions and exclusions. Do not treat the news as permission to use another brand’s identity. It does not specify an exact effective day.

Who should review campaigns

Audience: publishers buying search traffic and advertisers approving partner materials. Region: the announcement does not single out a country; check campaign eligibility for its market and product category. This concerns Google Ads, not a new AffiliateCore feature.

The following is our editorial workflow, not additional Google requirements. The goal is for visitors to understand who makes the offer and whose website they are entering.

Four checks before the next launch

  1. Record the campaign, displayed business name, final URL and actual landing-page owner in one row. Exclude passwords and customer data.
  2. Identify your role: supplier, agency, independent author or affiliate. Do not substitute a convenient advertising label for that role.
  3. Ask the advertiser to approve the specific wording and destination. Retain the version and response; partner permission alone does not guarantee platform approval.
  4. Review current Google rules and the ad’s status in the account. If uncertain, prepare a support question with a concrete example rather than submitting random variations.

Educational example and readiness criterion

An independent comparison site, “Service Choice”, sends readers to supplier “Example”. Both names are fictional. List the comparison publisher and product supplier separately in your working sheet. If the team cannot explain why the selected name appears in the ad, the material is not ready to launch.

A practical readiness measure: every reviewed campaign has an owner, an approved text version and a checked destination. Track disapprovals by reason and version, without attributing every rejection to this change. This process does not guarantee approval or replace other category restrictions.
