AI in advertising: setting tool permissions

On September 24, 2026, IAB Europe released its advertising AI report: 78% of respondents identified an AI governance owner. Source: IAB Europe.

What the news means

This is a survey result, not proof that a particular tool works or a measurement of every European company. Small teams need a named person accountable for automation. The following pilot plan is our editorial recommendation, not a report requirement.

Start with a bounded task

Choose one activity: drafting ad copy, grouping anonymised errors or preparing a summary. Specify acceptable input, expected output and failure signs. Do not begin with permission to change budgets, send payments or publish unchecked material.

Advertisers should appoint a process owner and set a spending limit. Publishers should verify factual claims, offer terms and invented promises in generated copy. Both should know which data reaches the supplier; keep credentials and unnecessary customer information out of prompts.

Count review and rework

Use the same task set to compare completion time, including checking and corrections. Record errors, severity and the proportion accepted without edits. A fast draft that needs extensive repairs may save no time.

Name someone who can stop the process and revoke access. Expand the pilot only when outputs are verifiable, actions are logged and predefined boundaries hold. An industry survey percentage cannot replace that assessment.
