PageSpeed Insights: prioritize mobile page fixes

Outcome: one verifiable fix instead of chasing a score

PageSpeed Insights helps publishers when it identifies a specific cause of friction on a mobile page. A green score alone proves neither a working affiliate link nor a suitable offer nor increased sales. This guide produces one technical task with a baseline, a repeat measurement and a user-journey check.

The intended context is your own informational and comparison pages for North American markets. The laboratory example does not simulate any particular country's network. Check product availability, offer geography and source rules separately. You need a public URL without secrets, permission to modify the page and a saved previous version. You may inspect another owner's public landing page, but send proposed changes to that owner.

1. Record exactly what you measure

Open PageSpeed Insights and enter the final public URL. Record date, exact address, mobile mode and any redirect. Never submit account pages, one-time links, tokens or personal parameters to a public testing service. Choose the page your audience actually visits, not just the homepage.

First walk through the journey on a phone: read the promised answer, find the main CTA and check that its destination matches its label. A broken button takes priority over a cosmetic score increase. Do not generate a fake payable conversion to test the route.

You can prepare an AffiliateCore publisher profile and a requirements list for a future offer. Match the prepared page to an appropriate available offer, if one exists. Registration does not promise an offer for your chosen country. Existing users can sign in.

2. Separate two kinds of evidence

PSI documentation describes a preceding 28-day field window and Lighthouse laboratory testing. Record whether the field sample concerns this URL or the entire origin. Missing data means no suitable sample, not proof of excellent or poor performance.

Do not expect this morning's fix to replace the whole field period immediately. A laboratory rerun checks the change now; real visits are observed afterward. Do not compare an old mobile report with a new desktop report or different final URLs. Save test conditions with the result.

3. Turn metrics into questions about the page

Official good Core Web Vitals thresholds at the 75th percentile are LCP ≤2.5 seconds, INP ≤200 milliseconds and CLS ≤0.1. They describe different aspects of experience; do not add them together or convert them into a conversion rate.

  • LCP: which large visible element appears late? Identify that element in the report. Compressing an unrelated image near the footer will not explain a delayed heading or hero.
  • INP: which action feels slow? Reproduce opening navigation, expanding a comparison or typing into a form. A load-only laboratory run does not measure full INP; TBT is a separate diagnostic indicator.
  • CLS: what unexpectedly moves text or a button? Inspect images without dimensions, late insertions and blocks that change after load. Zero in one short test does not prove that every shift has disappeared.

Write a specific hypothesis: “The hero has no reserved space, so text moves after the image arrives.” This is more testable than “the site is slow.” Choose the smallest change relevant to the observed cause.

4. A real technical measurement on an illustrative fixture

On October 11, 2026, we measured our own local demonstration page in Chromium at 390×844 CSS pixels. Both variants used the same 640×361 WebP image; the server imposed an 800 ms delivery delay. This was a controlled demonstration, not AffiliateCore production analytics, a PSI report or real-user data.

The “before” image had no size attributes. The “after” image added width="640" height="361", retaining responsive max-width:100%; height:auto. Everything else stayed the same. Each fresh browser context recorded Layout Shift entries without recent user input.

Actual three-run results: before: 0.057994 / 0.057994 / 0.057994; after: 0 / 0 / 0. Each baseline run had one shift event, so the sum equals that event's value. Rounded, this is about 0.058 versus zero. It is not a move from poor to good field CLS: the baseline already falls below 0.1, and the environment is laboratory-based.

The narrow conclusion is that reserving dimensions eliminated the observed shift on this fixture. It does not prove faster file transfer, improved INP, increased conversions or the same effect on your website. Repeat the check on your own page; do not treat these figures as a forecast.

5. Build a repair queue

First address a defect that obstructs the main action and has a confirmed cause. Next address a repeatable problem affecting a significant element. Only then consider minor report recommendations. Assess regression risk: removing a script without understanding its purpose can break consent controls, navigation or event collection.

For images, compare encoded dimensions with display size, format, bytes and reserved proportions. Optimize with a visual readability check. Do not load a huge original for a small card. For interactions, give the developer the exact action, device, delay evidence and expected behavior. Do not remove site protection to improve a score.

Illustrative priority map: symptom → element or action → supporting observation → smallest change → risk → repeat test → decision. Give each task an owner and a rollback option. This is a working record, not an AffiliateCore account feature.

6. Repeat measurement and test the journey

Run several repetitions under the same conditions and retain the spread, not just the best result. Separately check phone layout, reading, links, forms, errors and images. If a number improves but the button breaks, the change is not accepted.

After an authorized release, observe field data as a suitable sample accumulates. Record the change date and other interventions. Do not attribute lead fluctuations to one technical fix without a comparable experiment. Distinguish page views, clicks and confirmed outcomes.

7. Record and exercise

Record URL, page purpose, audience country, date, device, field scope URL/origin, data availability, laboratory repetitions, problem, hypothesis, change, journey check, decision and limitations. If evidence is missing, say so; never fill an empty field with invented speed.

Choose one page you own, identify one reproducible defect and specify a before/after check. Then prepare your AffiliateCore profile and compare the page with actual available offer conditions. If no offer fits yet, usefulness and technical quality remain worthwhile outcomes themselves.
