WhatsApp guest calls: prepare a useful partner briefing

What was announced on 14 October

On 14 October 2026, WhatsApp announced guest calling. A host needs a WhatsApp account and creates a link from the Calls tab using the plus button. A guest opens it in a computer browser, enters a name and waits for admission, without needing an account. The announcement covers individual and group calls with up to 32 participants. Guests cannot see other participants’ phone numbers, send messages or directly add people; hosts can remove guests.

Google and Outlook calendar integrations are promised later this year, not presented as available now. The announcement provides no country or browser-version list. Checked on 18 October. The new element is accountless participation: WhatsApp had already announced ordinary web calling on 28 July.

Primary sources: Meta; WhatsApp. Earlier web-calling announcement.

Our assessment: use a meeting to reach a decision

The following is our own suggested workflow for a voluntary business briefing, not WhatsApp guidance or a performance claim. An advertiser and a publisher might use a short meeting to clarify a content brief before work begins. Agree the meeting through an existing contact first. A convenient invitation should not become a reason to send unsolicited links or pressure someone into joining immediately.

Consider an illustrative software review: an advertiser wants an author to understand the intended audience, supportable product claims and draft approval process. Write down the expected output beforehand: three decisions and any unresolved questions. A useful conversation can support preparation, but attendance should not be recorded as an accepted affiliate lead or a payable conversion.

Prepare the invitation and a fallback

Choose a host and agree a time, including the time zone. State the purpose, expected attendees, duration and backup communication channel. Offer written questions if a call is inconvenient. Someone’s preference for a written exchange is not evidence of poor reliability and should not, by itself, change terms already agreed between the parties.

Run a small rehearsal with a colleague who has agreed to help. Use ordinary work equipment and a non-sensitive sample brief. Check the complete route to admission, whether both people can hear each other and who will manage the meeting. If the rehearsal fails, record the issue and use the agreed fallback. Do not promise that an unexplained compatibility problem will disappear before the briefing.

Admission is a separate decision from identity

Treat an entered name as a self-description, not proof of authority. Compare the arriving person with the agreed attendee list. If somebody unexpected appears, confirm the substitution through the contact you already know. Avoid demanding an identity document for an ordinary content discussion, and do not label a person fraudulent because of a technical problem.

Prepare a brief without customer records, payment details, access tokens or passwords. If identity remains uncertain, postpone sensitive discussion. Any request to change payment instructions or grant access should follow your team’s separate verification procedure. A friendly conversation is not a substitute for that process, even when the person seems familiar.

Keep the conversation focused

Open with one objective. In the illustrative review, discuss the audience first, the permitted claims second and the draft deadline third. Trying to settle contracts, attribution, payments and several campaigns simultaneously makes mistakes harder to spot. Introduce any additional participant and agree again which information may be discussed in their presence.

Use brief notes instead of making recording a default requirement. Give each decision an owner and a deadline; leave disputed points explicitly unresolved. If recording is necessary, agree this separately with participants and establish how it will be retained. Do not turn remarks from the meeting into a public testimonial without permission.

Close with a written next step

Send a short summary through the agreed channel and invite corrections. Keep offer terms separate from informal conversation, and do not treat attendance as permission for future marketing messages. Judge the meeting by whether the next action is clear, rather than by participant numbers or time spent talking.

If you already use our AffiliateCore platform, prepare questions about your own offer and compare the summary with its terms. The meeting remains an external communication process; this article does not announce a WhatsApp integration. The checklist is usable without registration. Existing advertisers can sign in to review their own terms before making commitments to a partner.
