Cloudflare WAF: review overrides before the new release

Cloudflare’s 25 October release announces two Log-mode rules. Ruleset overrides can still block matching requests. Cloudflare announcement

What a website owner should check

The following is our editorial acceptance procedure, not a report of an AffiliateCore incident. It is relevant to teams actually using the corresponding Cloudflare Managed Ruleset. The language of this article does not establish service availability in your country or account.

  1. Send the announcement and your landing-page address to the technical owner. Ask them to record the effective settings and inspection time. A published announcement does not confirm deployment to your website.
  2. Save the starting configuration and agree on the test boundaries. Cloudflare’s documentation gives individual rule settings priority over ruleset settings. Inspect the effective action rather than a single field.
  3. Follow an ordinary visitor journey: load the page and its images, follow a link, and make an agreed test form submission. Use a test environment or a check explicitly excluded from settlement, without real personal data.
  4. If something fails, compare the time, request path, HTTP status and available security event. Timing alone does not establish causation. Have a specialist review any targeted rule change; do not disable all protection.

Two illustrative decisions

An image fails to load. Record the page address, time and image request status. Without a related WAF event, do not label it a firewall block: inspect the application and file delivery. Once a connection is established, repeat the same journey after an agreed targeted correction.

The form works. This confirms only the tested scenario. Record the device, journey and outcome; one successful submission does not prove the whole website is protected against a vulnerability. Do not count it as a payable conversion.

A worksheet for the team

Copy and complete: website; owner; time and time zone; starting configuration; effective action; tested journey; expected outcome; actual outcome; link to redacted evidence; decision; repeat check.

Continue normal work once the tested journey is confirmed. If it breaks, pause the affected test and send the evidence to its owner. In our AffiliateCore platform, tie the check to a specific campaign: sign in and review the offer’s conditions before sending further traffic. The website owner configures WAF outside AffiliateCore.

Checked on 25 October 2026. Deployment timing for your account is unknown. The cover is an editorial illustration.
