Yandex Wordstat for the Russian market: interest or enquiry intent?

A large number beside a query can look like a ready-made audience for an affiliate website. Yet interest in bicycle repair may mean wanting to fix something yourself, find a part, check costs or choose a workshop. One article and one enquiry form cannot answer all those tasks. Starting with the biggest number can produce a page for readers who do not need the service you intend to offer next.

This guide concerns the Russian market and research before a page is created. Every language version keeps that geography. Unlike a CTR review of an existing site, the task here is to choose a subject, region and useful format. Level: beginner. You need Wordstat access, a simple worksheet and an understanding of a service that can actually be delivered. The examples involve bicycles and a local workshop, not financial products or gambling.

We did not use a private account authorised for demonstrating live data. The tables are educational, not interface screenshots. Every example quantity is invented: none is a measured query volume or an AffiliateCore client result.

1. Define a useful subject before collecting numbers

Write the task: “Help a city-bike owner in Kazan understand when a workshop is needed and what to explain when making an enquiry.” Kazan is a Russian city chosen for this example, not a promise that a partner is available there. Specify bicycle type, service area, limitations and the decision a reader should be able to make.

Separate the content outcome from the commercial outcome. A useful article can explain when continued use is inappropriate and professional advice is needed, even if no enquiry follows. A service page has a different task: explain availability, restrictions and the contact process. Let the reader’s task determine the page title rather than the most popular phrase.

If you are preparing an affiliate project, you can create an AffiliateCore publisher profile, or sign in with an existing profile. Match the subject only to a suitable permitted non-gambling offer for the territory concerned, if one is available. Registration guarantees neither availability, approval nor results. Researching your own subject does not require AffiliateCore registration.

2. Open Wordstat and record the settings

Go to Wordstat using your own authorised Yandex account. The official introduction explains that authenticated users can access query statistics. This is not a contact list of potential customers.

Start with ремонт велосипедов, meaning bicycle repairs. In Top queries, choose the region: Russia for an initial overview, then the actual service territory. Do not leave a worldwide selection and describe it as Russian data. Record the check date, phrase, tab, region and device. Take the period from the report rather than automatically labelling it a calendar month.

The interface guide covers Top queries, Regions, Dynamics and CSV downloads. Initially use the same device selection throughout. If you later examine smartphones separately, label that sample; it does not represent all devices.

If sign-in or an access check prevents use, do not bypass restrictions or ask for someone else’s cookies. Yandex’s FAQ addresses common access problems. You can prepare tasks and a blank research worksheet while access is unavailable, but cannot fill it with invented “measurements”.

3. Collect the language of tasks, not just popular phrases

Review phrases containing the starting expression and related queries. Select a small set, perhaps 15–20 relevant variants. That is an editorial limit for a manageable first pass, not a Wordstat rule or statistical minimum. Write the human question behind each candidate.

“Bicycle brake squeaks” may seek an explanation; “bicycle repair price” may compare conditions; “bike workshop nearby” may seek an accessible location. None proves that the person will immediately book. Words such as price and appointment only help form a hypothesis about the next step.

Do not automatically add related queries to the content plan. Topic similarity does not establish suitability for your service. Parts sales, mechanic vacancies or toy repairs may be outside the page’s purpose. Keep the reason for exclusion so another editor does not restore an unsuitable subject merely because its number is large.

Do not add the broad phrase and its narrower variants as independent audiences. One query can belong to overlapping selections. Your working map describes different questions, not a total of future visitors.

4. Refine wording with verified operators

Use these controls in Top queries while retaining region and device settings. The definitions come from the official operator reference. Input examples remain in Russian because the research concerns Russia, even when this explanation is in English.

Input What it refines
"ремонт велосипедов" Phrase without additional words
ремонт !велосипеда Form of the marked word
мастер +на дом Inclusion of the specified stop word

Quotation marks constrain word count; by themselves they do not fix word order and every word form. The exclamation mark applies to the following word. Plus preserves the selected function word. A quoted result is not an “exact audience”: it refines queries, not people’s qualifications.

First compare the original phrase with one refined version. Record the question you wanted to answer and the setting changed. Avoid adding several operators at once if you cannot explain the resulting sample. Zero results for a narrow wording do not prove that the underlying need is absent; people may express it differently.

The seasonal exercise below uses a plain phrase without restrictive operators. Do not transfer its count to a quoted query. Check operator support for the particular Dynamics granularity separately: Yandex’s help pages did not describe it consistently on the review date.

Meaningful stop words may be retained automatically, as explained in Yandex’s rules. Do not assume that every preposition without a plus sign is necessarily excluded.

5. Example 1: three intentions need different pages

Imagine an editor preparing content for bicycle owners in Kazan, Russia. This is an educational classification of possible queries, not confirmation that these exact rows currently appear in Wordstat. The Russian inputs preserve the intended market.

Possible query Useful format
как проверить велосипед Checklist before contacting a professional
ремонт велосипеда цена Explanation of the service scope
веломастерская рядом Local service page

The checklist explains what symptoms to describe and when to consult a professional. It should not present a potentially unsafe repair procedure as a universally simple task. The cost page explains what determines an estimate without inventing prices. The workshop page states the actual service area and enquiry process only when a real provider has been established.

Suppose the broad educational selection contains 2400 queries and the quoted version contains 180. The calculation 180 / 2400 = 7.5% describes only the relationship between these invented counts. It is not the share ready to enquire. The difference, 2220, is not a count of unique people needing another page.

Decision: prepare one useful checklist and a separate service-page brief if a provider is confirmed. Do not place a booking form in every paragraph of informational content. If service conditions are unknown, do not make the article look like a working appointment service.

6. Check the region and the ability to serve it

In Regions, inspect city and regional breakdowns. Yandex’s guide describes this view as a distribution over the last 30 days. Distinguish query count from the interest index: stronger relative interest does not necessarily mean the greatest absolute volume or better economics.

Do not compare all of Russia and one city as equivalent markets. Do not add an administrative region and its cities without understanding overlap. Record whether a selected row means the city itself or a broader territory. A city name in the query text is also not equivalent to the selected search region.

For a local service, first confirm the service area, how the bicycle reaches the workshop and whether staff are available. Demand in a neighbouring city does not make transport possible. If customers must bring their bicycle themselves, explain that before the enquiry. Do not promise home visits or urgent repairs merely because those words appear in a query list.

Existing users can sign in to AffiliateCore to review geographic conditions of a suitable permitted non-gambling offer separately, if available. Wordstat does not confirm that an offer exists, and this guide assumes no built-in data exchange between the services.

7. Example 2: seasonality changes preparation timing

Open Dynamics for one plain phrase, the same Russian region and the same device selection. Examine monthly data and compare the same completed months across years. An unfinished current month is not equivalent to a complete one. A sharp peak needs investigation rather than an automatic claim of market growth.

The figures below are entirely invented for a bicycle-workshop subject. A and B are two educational years, not actual Yandex measurements.

Month A B
February 120 150
April 300 360

February increases by (150 − 120) / 120 = 25%, and April by (360 − 300) / 300 = 20%. Within year B, February-to-April growth is 140%. The last figure is not annual growth: it compares different months with potential seasonality.

Two points cannot establish a durable seasonal pattern. Look at neighbouring months and whether the pattern repeats in other available years. Preserve any changes in phrase or filters. External events can alter interest, and query statistics do not automatically explain the cause.

Decision: if actual data support repetition, prepare useful content and verify service conditions before the expected season. Do not promise that a workshop will be fully booked. Where evidence is insufficient, keep the subject in the research plan rather than using it to justify spending.

8. Turn the research into one page brief

Record the Russian region, reader’s task, query group, proposed format, useful answer, restrictions and next voluntary action. Attach the date, tab, filters and working export location. Distinguish measured observations from editorial hypotheses explicitly.

Select a subject if you can provide a verifiable answer, serve the stated geography and explain how the page differs from an existing one. Postpone it when the query’s meaning is uncertain or data are not comparable. Reject a commercial page when its credibility would depend on invented providers, prices or availability.

Estimate your work separately. Research, consultation with the person responsible for the service and writing will take different amounts of time. Do not multiply query counts by an arbitrary “conversion rate” to claim profitability. Search visibility, visit share and suitable enquiries have not yet been measured.

After the page is published, observe actual visits and voluntary actions using authorised measurement. Only then is there evidence to discuss the path to an enquiry. Wordstat research cannot replace measuring that sequence.

9. Preserve reproducibility and privacy

Keep the original query including operators, selected region, device, period and extraction date. Restore those settings before repeating the check. Do not compare an old Russia-wide result with a new smartphone-only city result and call the difference a change in demand.

Shared folders should contain only necessary data. Do not attach passwords, cookies, tokens or account screenshots revealing unrelated information. If an aggregate table explains the finding, do not publish the full working export. Assign responsibility for updating records and removing unnecessary copies.

Wordstat describes Yandex queries, not all demand in Russia and not unique future buyers. A low count does not rule out demand through referrals, maps, other search engines or offline channels. A high count establishes neither ability to pay, provider availability nor permission to promote a specific offer.

10. Checklist and practical assignment

  • Russia and the actual service territory are selected, not merely Russian-language wording.
  • The reader’s task is separated from the desired enquiry.
  • Date, phrase, operators, tab, devices and period are saved.
  • Overlapping selections are not added as unique audiences.
  • Informational, comparison and local-service intentions are separated.
  • Seasonality uses equivalent months and settings.
  • Service conditions are confirmed, or the commercial component is postponed.

Assignment: choose one ordinary local service in Russia, create three query groups and draft one page brief. State what observation would change the plan. Show the brief to the people responsible for content and actual service conditions first; their check does not confirm future enquiries.

For the next stage, use the affiliate SEO site plan. If a page already receives visits but people do not complete the action, use the post-click funnel audit. Here we researched demand before page creation, not CTR on an existing website.

You can register as an AffiliateCore publisher to prepare a profile, or sign in if you already have one. Consider only a suitable permitted non-gambling offer for the selected Russian region when available. Availability, approval and outcomes are not guaranteed.

Official Yandex sources were checked on 9 October 2026. The page-selection method and calculations are editorial educational material; this article contains no measured query volumes or client results. Every translation retains its focus on the Russian market.
